Impressions of An Impressionist: Volume 2

I have been very busy over the past couple months working on several paintings that I was planing to give as gifts. Since I have them all done and they have been gifted, I would like to share with you what I have been working on.

Whitetail Deer

This painting was a gift for my dad for his 50th birthday.  As I have mention in earlier posts (Oh Deer!), my dad is a very big outdoors man, so I really wanted to paint something to reflect his interests.  I was very please with how this painting turned out.  I wasn’t sure how well I would do with a more realistic style painting.

City on a Hill

I decided that I wanted to paint something for both my mother and Brandon’s, so I decided that Mother’s Day would be a good time.  The first painting I did was for my mom, one of her favorite bible verses is Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” So I painted something to reflect what the verse speaks about.  I also tried to give it a more folk/country look because that is my mother’s style.

Teddy Bear with Daisy

The second one I did was for Brandon’s mother.  Brandon told me that she collected teddy bears, so what better to use for my subject.  I like how cute and fluffy he turned out.  I used a reference photo, and I like how it had long pieces of fur sticking out all over.

I didn’t include all the details of how I painted each canvas, but if you have any questions about the colors I used or techniques please comment below.

I recently found a man on YouTube called Clive5Art.  He has a lot of videos with tips to make painting with acrylics easier.  One of the most helpful things I learned from watching his videos was something called a wet palette. It keeps the paints moist for a few days, so your palette doesn’t dry out, and you don’t end up wasting paint. Here is a link to his YouTube page (

I’m considering taking request and selling paintings.  I was wondering if anyone would be interested.  Please comment below and let me know what you think.

I’m so thankful that Brandon got me that painting set for Christmas, I really do enjoy painting. I also like learning new techniques and trying different styles of painting. Painting has given me the chance to sit and just use my imagination and it gives me a break from the everyday duties of dishes and laundry.

  1. I love the softness of your work. Each one brings me to a calm place that I enjoy. I will say I am glad you got the paint set also. I know how much rediscovering my own art has meant to me. Thank you for sharing yours with us.
